Choice: the ability to make a decision when you have two or more possibilities. We live in an unprecedented age of options. And that can make choice difficult. But if we find an opening to opt in to “a pre-fixed menu”, we don’t have to think about it. And that freedom, freedom from the stress of decision making, is worth more than we think.
When it comes to makeup, color selection is endless. It can feel overwhelming to try to keep pace with the weekly trends. It can also feel stifling to never change. That’s why I look forward to Pantone’s “Color of the Year” announcement!
What if you used one color as a focus for an entire year?
Annually, The Pantone Institute, a company known as “the global authority on color” announces the new Color of the Year! In 2000, Pantone created the Color of the Year as a trendsetting concept for branding, marketing and creative society as a whole. Tradition has led to the announcement of the 2024 Color of the Year: “Peach Fuzz”!
A key reason to celebrate Pantone’s “Color of the Year” is to embrace the element of surprise. Humans are naturally curious creatures, and the thrill of not knowing what the year’s color will be can feel exhilarating. The anticipation of waiting for the announcement and the excitement of learning about the color’s symbolism can create a sense of euphoria.
Don’t prefer the color once it is revealed? C’est Comma Ça (It is what it is)! Commit to it for a year and see what surfaces. There’s beauty in practicing acceptance and relinquishing control through agency of choice. Living with acceptance is not about having perfect circumstances or situations. But we will find ourselves embracing with significance, all the limitations that exist to create the best version of ourselves. Opting in on a color chosen for us can feel like embarking on an adventure. We never know what we’re going to find, and that sense of unknown can be thrilling. It’s like going on a treasure hunt- we never know what we’ll discover along the way. We have the opportunity to enjoy the assignment because it gives a sense of adventure and excitement in an otherwise mundane lens of life and paradox of choice.

To kickoff of a new year and new hue of focus, I hosted a private party for some close friends at the studio.
F.A.C.E. Makeup Artistry’s peach wall served as the party backdrop. We wore peach-toned wardrobe items, sipped on themed cocktails, and talked color for 2024. I sent guests home with on-theme gift bags of peachy lipsticks and blush.
