“I love this color, but I could never wear it. It’s so bright!” Variations of this statement happen several times each and every day. Yes, makeup colors can be very intimidating, especially in their containers. But, with a few tips and recommendations, you’ll find that color can be VERY wearable, and VERY becoming!
1. WEAR COLORS IN WASHES
Products within each cosmetic brand are formulated differently. Some brands pride themselves in being highly pigmented. Other brands formulate products to provide a more minimal color payoff: a “wash”. As a professional, I have a mixture of both options in my makeup arsenal. For everyday consumers wanting to experiment with color, I recommend using washes of colors. Doing so will allow moderate color-incorporation, but eliminate the risk of the makeup application appearing too “clownish”. Our f.a.c.e. 2. STRATEGIC PLACEMENT

Much like interior design, makeup colors are beautiful when they are designed and applied as accent pieces. WHERE to place colors is all relative to the facial structure of the client. To ease into the process, begin with picking one feature (eyes, lips, or cheeks) to enhance with color. Keep the idea simple. One color can really generate a powerful look.

Although the color wheel does not come up in conversation every day, it IS incorporated into the color selection process by makeup professionals. A staple blueprint for color in makeup is incorporating complimentary colors (the colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel).
