Last June, a friend sent me a text: “There’s a psychic fair at The Rock Shop today. They’ve got 10 readers and an aura photographer. I’m going—it’ll be fun! You should come and get a reading!”
So, I went!
Having always felt a strong connection with colors as tools for understanding, I chose to have my aura photographed. The aura photographer used bio-feedback sensors linked to computer software to capture the essence of my emotional, mental, and spiritual state in that moment. My aura showed green in all three areas: top, center, and bottom—grounded, stretched, and floating in equal measure. It felt aligned, a state I hadn’t fully recognized as my own before. While I had experienced fleeting moments of clarity in the past, I had never quieted my mind enough to consider living in a state of alignment. During the reading, the sage also performed a mini “intuitive reading,” and what stood out to me were visions of being seen in a “higher-level profession.” Images of hands and muscles repeatedly surfaced, which would later become a powerful visual symbol for me.
I’m still working on visualizing the broader meaning behind my profession. “Makeup Artist” is an incredibly specialized field within the vast beauty industry. If I love what I do, what more is there to grow if the work is already so deeply focused and specialized? I think the answer lies in the image of hands—a reflection of my need to journal. The key is in sharing my thoughts through writing, connecting those ideas with my craft, and continuing to distance myself from social media. It’s about refining my voice and my process while staying true to what makes my work unique.
“Remember, no one else has your self-reflection and lived experience, so a goldmine is waiting to be tapped. The one caveat is that it has to be tapped by you and no one else, And if you don’t tap that mine, it will stay buried forever.” –Teronie Donaldson
Reading your aura can be a profound way to connect with yourself and your inner thoughts. It’s a method of understanding the outward expression of who we are, allowing for deeper insight into our desires and emotional states. This is the essence of my Private Makeup Lessons through F.A.C.E. Makeup Artistry. The concept of “inside out” rings true in how we choose colors and intensities for our makeup, creating a synergy between our inner selves and the outward expression of our identity. By understanding the colors that resonate with you, you can tap into a deeper sense of alignment, promoting both spiritual growth and an enhanced connection to your own essence. Just as colors reflect our emotional states, they can guide us toward a fuller understanding of ourselves, both spiritually and visually.
While I recommend the expanding experience of a professional, in-person reading, an at-home substitute is the AURLA app. Take a photo of yourself. Discover your encompassing colors. Understand their aura meanings. Wear makeup tones reflecting your aura. Embody this knowledge and see what you discover.
