The Curious Case of the Tan

LISTEN TO BLOG POST

Tanning isn’t quite makeup, but it’s not enhancement-free skin either. It’s that golden glow we chase, a shortcut to feeling confident, even when it’s from a spray booth, not the sun.

Once a sign of labor and outdoor work, tan has flipped to symbolize health, vitality, and leisure. Looking tan signals energy and wellness, even if it’s only an illusion.

Like foundation or bronzer, tanning evens skin tone and adds warmth. Spray tans give control over this glow without the sun’s risks. It’s makeup in another form, changing more than color, but mood too.

A tan can boost how we see ourselves and how we carry ourselves. It feels like an invitation. We stand taller and smile wider when we look sun-kissed.

But tanning can also mask insecurities or fatigue. Like makeup, it fades and needs upkeep. Underneath, it’s still us. So, it tanning makeup? Maybe it’s both. It’s ritual, confidence, and self-expression rolled into one warm glow.
